Case for dry scrubbers for Indian Power plant

Bob Giglio of SHI FW makes a case for CFB dry scrubbers for the 60,000 MW of coal fired power plants in India which are less than 500 MW and are older. SHI-FW has provided CFB dry scrubbers with a capacity of 300 MW both to China and the US. Advantages include the low water requirements.

Romanian coal-fired power station meets national pollution directives with flexible and scalable DCS solution from Rockwell Automation

A large combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Iași, Romania needed to meet new So2 emission limits. Two of the plant’s 420 T/hr steam boilers still operate on pit coal, with a fuel oil back up, and the plant  took this project as an opportunity to upgrade the entire control infrastructure for the power-generation system. For this project it employed Romanian company, Elsaco Electronic SRL – a member of the Rockwell Automation PartnerNetwork™.

SoCalGas will replace 20 percent of its traditional natural gas supply with renewable natural gas (RNG) by 2030.

The March 2019 announcement is part of SoCalGas' vision to be the cleanest natural gas utility in North America, delivering affordable and increasingly renewable energy to its customers.

GEA supplies glass plant catalytic filter

GEA Glashütte Freital contracted with GEA for supply and installation of a compact plant for the cleaning of flue gases resulting from melting furnaces. ( More recently GEA announced that 2 meter candles are now available for this technology) The Customer selected GEA’s BisCat technology (Bischoff Catalysator technology) thanks to low space requirement and combination of several process steps in one reactor. The new furnace has a melting capacity about of 150 t/d, commissioning along with GEA’s emission control plant was scheduled for March 2019. Generally the furnaces in the glass production are equipped with flue gas cleaning plants which have separate steps for treatment of particulate, acid crude gases and nitrogen oxides. GEA has developed a technology which reduces these steps to one single step in a single reactor. The flue gas cleaning process is carried out by means of rigid filter elements consisting of coated mineral fibers, so-called ceramic candle. These candles are well-proven and very flexible to use even with regard to modifications of operating parameters, especially at high gas temperatures. Even stricter future requirements set in the Federal Administration‘s Regulation “Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft)” will be underrun. Dust emissions are near to detection limit. GEA has already delivered plants of this kind for the purpose of hot gas filtration and has now refined these plants recently in order to include the separation of nitrogen oxides resulting from flue gases (DeNOx). The ceramic candles are installed in a walk-in clean gas chamber to ensure easy access for maintenance and inspection.

Gore Mercury Control System for cement plants

The Gore Mercury Control System is comprised of sorbent polmer catalyst which absorbs the mercury. The SO2 is converated to sulfuric acid and provides a weeping action to keep the catalyst clean. The GMCS can operate down stream of a scrubber and thus remove mercury not captured in the scrubber.

Emerson providing automation technologies for Hitachi Zosen WTE projects

Emerson Process Management, will provide process automation technologies and services for current and future waste-to-energy projects of Hitachi Zosen Inova. Included are control and safety systems, predictive maintenance software, control valves and measurement devices, and services such as engineering, project management and lifecycle care. The agreement formalizes the relationship between the two companies following a successful project at Perlen, near Lucerne, Switzerland. The US$319 million (CHF 320 million) Perlen project is the largest climate protection project in central Switzerland. The facility is set to produce 155,000 MWh of electricity per year, covering the energy requirements of nearly 38,000 households, and will supply 320,000 MWh of steam to an adjacent paper mill. “We are working in close collaboration with Emerson on a number of ongoing energy-from-waste installations,” said Douglas Else-Jack, head of supply management at Hitachi Zosen Inova. “The successful completion of the Perlen project demonstrates our confidence in Emerson’s expertise is fully justified.”

Hitachi Zosen Inova utilizes lime based CFB scrubber for WTE applications

The HZI SemiDry process employs the principle of the circulating fluidized bed for efficient removal of acid gases by adsorption with hydrated lime. Recirculation of reagent maximizes reagent use and provides excess reagent to capture contaminant peaks. In addition, activated carbon or coke can be injected for removal of volatile organics and metals. Cited advantages are • Low emissions with a high flexibility relative to load or flue gas contaminant changes • Minimized use of lime as widely-used low-cost reagent • High energy efficiency compared to lime-slurry based systems • High availability and low O&M cost due to simple design and operation • Proven technology with long industry record of success

HZ-inova Xerosorp captures acid gases, removes NOX and recovers heat

This device includes sodium bicarbonate injection into a reactor, recovery in a fabric filter and reinjection of captured solids. The cleaned gas then passes into a catalyst system which is efficient at removing NOx at temperatures as low as 200C. This catalyst is regenerated by including multiple modules. One module is regenerated while another module is cleaned. Cited advantages are • Very compact design • Reaches lowest emissions • Lowest Bicar consumption due to residue circulation • Damping of peaks due to high residue buffer capacity in the recirculation system • High energy efficiency due to: – Low pressure drop – Low regeneration rate of catalyst in offline mode  – Tail end heat recovery.

Lhoist Sorbacal is a cost effective choice to meet the cement MACT

Sorbacal is a high efficiency hydrated lime which can be injected in as many as three locations between the kiln and the fabric filter to capture the HCl and other pollutants as needed to meet the EPA MACT requirements. This article shows the results of detailed testing and successful results at a large cement plant.

IAC Recirculating Dry Scrubber 2009 Patent

The present invention provides improved boiler assemblies (10) with enhanced pollution abatement properties through injection and recycling of particulate sorbent materials including sodium bicarbonate, trona, and mixtures thereof. The assemblies (10) include a boiler (12), economizer (14), air heater (15), and recirculation reactor (16). Fresh sorbent material is introduced via assembly (60) into the boiler assembly (10) at one or more injection locations, and serves to sorb NOx, SOx, and other pollutants in the flue gas. The flue gas and entrained sorbent material then pass through reactor (16) for separation of sorbent, which is then recycled for injection back into the assembly (10) upstream of reactor (16). The present invention can also be used in industrial applications where the same emissions are generated and are needed to be controlled. Examples of such applications are Cement and Lime Kilns.

The EUEC paper by Gerald Hunt of Lhoist demonstrates that with SORBOCAL, a high surface lime hydrate it is possible to achieve 95% SO2 removal with a combination of SDA, Cyclone, DSI , and fabric filter. DSI can be used in varying quantities and locations to achieve the needed SO2 removal to meet MATS and MACT

More than 100 MATS Extensions

More than 100 MATS Extensions The NACAA table contains information from 58 agencies in 45 states, DC and Puerto Rico. According to the responses, 107 facilities have made extension requests, of which 98 have been granted, five are under consideration, two were returned to the facilities for additional information and two have been denied, to date. The respondents indicated that approximately six more requests may be forthcoming. According to EPA’s Regulatory Impact Analysis, there are 460 coal-fired power plants that are affected by the MATS rule. The details by State are shown at MATS EXTENSION SURVEY MAY 2014.

Longking Designs Multi-Unit Dry FGD towers at Sangang Plant

The Sanming Steel and Iron Mill, which has been open since 1958, commissioned the first ever multi-unit tower in 2008. The multi-unit tower lowered both initial investment and operating costs for the dry sintering project. Huaneng Shanxi Yushe Power Plant 2 × 300MW dry desulphurization project (华能山西榆社电厂2×300MW干法脱硫除尘工程)

Longking Installation at Hanfeng Power Plant 龙净环保的设备在邯峰电厂

Solios points out waste disposal advantages of entrained flow

Solios provides a counter argument to the presentations at the March 27 webinar which in one case indicated that SDA has an advantage in terms of waste disposal. Solios contends that it is not only a question of quantity but of potential use. The attached information shows that there are beneficial uses for the entrained flow dry scrubber waste.

Need to balance air flow among modules in dry scrubber system

A number of the dry scrubber and SDA designs require modular supply due to size limitations. This introduces the need to measure the gas flow to each module. The strength of the Promecon gas flow measurement system is hot dusty applications. So the technology is well suited for measuring the flue gas flow to individual scrubber modules. The sensors are solid rods and the technology utilizes the fly ash particles.

Extensive CDS Experience Already Gained in U.S

Lime and hydrated lime are widely available to meet the demands of FGT applications in the U.S. power industry. Lime-based CDS technologies have become popular options to achieve very high removals of multiple pollutants produced from solid fossil fuel-fired electricity generating units. Four lime-based CDS technologies have been installed in 12 PC boilers and 12 CFB boilers. Constructions are underway at 15 PC boilers. These technologies are applied to units with sizes ranging from 58 to 690 MW. Data obtained from AES Greenidge and Sandow Stations showed that the emission limits of Hg, filterable particulate, and HCl mandated under the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards were met. CDS is capable of handling solid fuels with various sulfur contents. CDS is capable of handling wide swing load. Multiple CDS reactor vessels can be placed in parallel to process flue gases from larger units

Graff Wulff ( now FW) CFB at Dry Fork is 420 MW and the largest in North America

The CFB absorber at Dry Fork has been operating since 2011 and with the 4500 ft elevation is the equivalent of a 500 Mw unit at sea level . the system is now being sold through Foster Wheelere. Given the efficiency requirements and concern about water the decision relative to SO2 removal choice was limited.

Boosting SDA efficiency with DSI at Wygen 3

The SDA is challenged to meet efficiency when the flue gas temperature is low or the Sow concentration is high. B&W found out how to improve efficiency under thes conditions at Wgen 3 . the answer is to inject dry hydrated lime. So in effect you are combining DSI and SDA
