Shanghai Hosts filtration conference with heavy air emphasis
The Third China International Filtration Exhibition & Conference and Bag Filter Shanghai 2004 were both held last week in separate exhibition centers. Offshore companies setting up production and local companies expanding to meet the growing needs reflected the prevailing dynamic atmosphere.
Hollingsworth & Vose was one of the larger exhibitors at Filtration 2004. The company is building a production plant near Shanghai and is aggressively pursuing the market. Ahlstrom, Fabriano, Lantor, Hengda Cloth, Jiangsu Huayu Air Filter, JM, Suzhou Huatai Air Tech Filter Co, Suzhou Xinye Paper Making Co. Ltd, Tianjin Teda filters Co. Ltd, and a number of other exhibitors with air filtration products participated.
Bob McIlvaine presented a paper on the non-woven filtration market in China. Peter Tsai of TANDEC described how the electrostatic charge on filter media could be maintained for longer periods with use of an additive. Mary Pierce of H & V compared two particle counters.
Kyung-Ju Choi of AAF told attendees that MERV 10 was needed for PM2.5 particles (50% efficiency at 1-3 microns). Due to terrorist threats, the use of HEPA filters’ high efficiency gas absorption, positive pressurization, proper seals, and biological sensors are now employed where occupant protection is of concern.
