Over $3 billion will be spent by municipalities for wastewater and drinking
water plants. The continuing population shift to the cities, the higher
standard of living and increased expectations are driving infrastructure
expansion.
The pump expenditures by power plants will exceed $1.2 billion. There will be an
addition of more than 50,000 MW of new power plants this year. In
addition, there will be some retrofits of flue gas desulfurization (FGD)
systems. These systems have large pump requirements. A big effort to reduce NOx
is resulting in a market for ammonia pumps.
The chemical industry is growing thanks to both international and domestic
investment. Mines will spend over $600 million for pumps for use in China.
It is also significant that Chinese companies are influencing pump purchases in
Africa and South America.

$7.2 Billion Market for Sedimentation and Centrifugation Equipment In 2014
The market for sedimentation and centrifugation equipment will exceed $7.2
billion in 2014, up from $6.9 billion in 2013. This is the new forecast
appearing in the continuously updated online Sedimentation & Centrifugation
World Markets report published by the McIlvaine Company. (www.mcilvainecompany.com)
Decanter, disc and other centrifuges will account for $2.9 billion in sales
revenue. This will be slightly less than the clarifiers and thickeners.

Dissolved air floatation and hydrocyclones revenue will exceed $1 billion.
Clarifiers and thickeners are used in mining, wastewater treatment and other
processes to separate particles from liquids using gravity. Decanter centrifuges
are widely used to dewater municipal sewage sludge. They are also used in many
chemical, food and refinery processes.
Disc centrifuges are used to separate liquids-from-liquids as well as
solids-from-liquids and are used in dairy, food and drink, fuel oil
clarification and many other processes. Other centrifuges includes basket
designs used in chemical processes, coal separation and food processes.
Hydrocyclones remove coarser particles and are frequently used in the stone and
gravel industries and as preliminary separators in many processes. Dissolved air
flotation involves capturing particles on the surfaces of bubbles. It is used in
water and wastewater treatment and in the food industry.
The high growth areas include municipal wastewater treatment in Asia, the
petrochemical industry in the Middle East, oil sands in Canada and mining in
Africa.
Major international suppliers of sedimentation and centrifugation equipment
include Alfa Laval, Andritiz, FLS, GEA Westfalia, Pieralisi, Siemens and
more than 5,000 other companies. A number of Chinese suppliers have grown
rapidly in the last few years and have captured significant market share within
China and nearby countries.

Cleanroom Consumable Expenditures will be $7.1 Billion in 2014
Manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, aseptically packaged food,
flat panels, solar cells and others who need ultraclean working space will spend
$7.1 billion in 2014 for consumables which are specifically designed for
ultraclean applications. This is the most recent forecast in the McIlvaine
report World Cleanroom Markets. (www.mcilvainecompany.com)

There are a number of large players in the market. Suppliers of single-use
garment materials include Kimberly Clark and DuPont. Reusable garments are often
rented and not sold. The laundries or processors have to clean these garments in
ultraclean environments. Garments are frequently disposed of or cleaned after
each exit from the clean space. Aramark and Prudential Uniform supply the
garments as part of the processing fees.
Another large company entered the cleanroom industry a few years ago. ITW
purchased Texwipe and became a leading supplier of wipes. A number of the glove
suppliers are large companies. Much of the manufacturing of wipes, gloves and
single-use garments is now in Asia.
The supplies market includes special mops, mats and furniture which have to be
built so as not to shed particulate or volatile organic compounds. Two thirds of
the supplies market consist of the various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants
used in cleanrooms.
East Asian purchases of cleanroom consumables are not only larger than other
regions but are growing at a faster rate. This is due to the expansion of the
flat panel, semiconductor, solar cell and medical device industries in the
region.
Another significant trend is the production of generic drugs by international
companies in India, China and other Asian countries.
