Indonesia Will Spend More Than $3 Billion/yr. for Power Plant Flow Control and
Treatment Over the Next Ten Years
Indonesia is building 38,000 MW of coal-fired power plants over the next ten
years. This will more than double the generating capacity of the nation.
This makes Indonesia one of the top ten purchasers of power plant equipment over
the coming decade. To put it in perspective, Indonesia is building as many
coal-fired power plants as the U.S. is retiring. Unlike the U.S. there is
only one generating company in Indonesia. So this company jumps into the
top 500 flow control and treatment purchasers in the world.
PLN (Perusahaan
Listrik Negara, English: 'State Electricity Company') is an Indonesian
government-owned corporation which has a monopoly on
electricity distribution in Indonesia.
The company generates much of its electricity from coal. PLN will spend
more than $6 billion per year for flow control and treatment in 2022/23
just for coal-fired power plants and will also spend several billion
dollars more for flow control and treatment at non-coal facilities. This
qualifies PLN as one of the top 500 flow control and treatment purchasers in the
world.
The following estimates of sales to PLN for flow control equipment are based on
the assumption that the majority of the sales value is booked a year before
start up for capital items and that repair sales take place in the same year as
installation is made. Forecasts have been made in two-year increments.

“Power Plant Water Monitoring” is the Hot Topic Hour on September 24, 2015 at
10:00 a.m. CST
A webinar on September 24 at 10:00 a.m. central time will cover the options and
issues regarding selection of fossil-fired plant water monitoring systems and
instruments. There is a very ambitious goal to provide a website with the
most comprehensive information on power plant monitors. This is part of a
whole knowledge system to provide Alerts, Answers, Analysis and Advancement in
every aspect of power. Owners and operators around the world have free
access to
44I Power
Plant Air Quality Decisions (Power
Plant Decisions Orchard) and
59D Gas
Turbine and Combined Cycle Decisions.
The Power Plant Water Monitoring Decision Guide is one of the subsidiary
websites in both these knowledge systems.
This webinar will be focused on creating a Power Plant Water Monitoring Route
Map and Summary which will help decision makers navigate the website. The first
inputs to this Route Map are displayed at Power
Plant Water Monitoring Route Map.
There is still time for vendors to submit one or two slides for the display
deck. We intend to discuss issues during the session but due to the 90 minute
limit most of the time will be just spent on determining which types of
monitors are best suited for specific applications.
The website already exists with presentations, articles and recordings. This
discussion will be followed by a continuing flow of additions to the system.
This webinar is free of charge. For more information on supplying data or
participating contact Bob McIlvaine at
rmcilvaine@mcilvainecompany.com.

Utilities Turn To Renewables
Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power announced an agreement to acquire the
company's second wind project – the 151-megawatt (MW) Grant Wind facility in
Oklahoma – from Apex Clean Energy. With the addition of the Grant Wind facility,
Southern Power's renewable ownership is expected to reach more than 1,600 MW,
with 21 solar, wind and biomass facilities either announced, acquired or under
construction. Across its system, Southern Company has added or announced more
than 3,400 MW of renewable generation since 2012.
Duke Energy Renewables announced it has completed four solar power projects in
Eastern North Carolina, adding 30 megawatts (MW) of solar in the state.
“With these additions to our existing 105 MW portfolio, we are more than
doubling our solar capacity in North Carolina,” said Greg Wolf, President
Commercial Portfolio, and Duke Energy.
Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) has signed a power purchase agreement
(PPA) with SolarCity for electricity from the first utility-scale solar array
and battery storage system designed to supply power to the grid in the evening,
when demand is highest.
