Lots of Air Pollution Information Now Being Published in Chinese
The May issue of Asia Electric Power Environmental Protection is an example of
the substantial amount of relevant information now being published on power
plant air pollution control in Chinese. We have entered the exhibitor
names in our Global Knowledge Orchard as displayed below.
This magazine is published in
Chinese monthly. It has many
full color advertisements and
good technical articles about
desulfurization, precipitators,
fabric filters, and even covers
wind power. Here are the
advertisers in the May issue
plus a link to the entire issue. |

Jiangsu Ruitai Science and Technology has five patents and seven more pending
relative to PPS fiber. It is a major PPS fiber producer for the Chinese bag
filter market.
GEA has a full page advertisement promoting the Niro Atomizer spray drier
technology.
Longking also has a full page advertisement on its range of FGD and particulate
control technologies.
Tongfang Environment has a good full page view of clear stacks with links to the
home page and discussion of its FGD, DeNOx and particulate control
technologies.
There is an interesting article by North China Electric Power University
relative to multi pollutant control. Since many industrial boilers and
some utility boilers use venturi scrubbers for particulate control, there is the
potential for SO2 capture just by adding calcium reagents. In
order to protect against the corrosive gases the units have been built from
concrete.
Researchers from Shandong Electric Power Institute and Tsinghua University have
developed a low cost catalyst using modified flyash. Laboratory results show
greater than 90 percent NOx removal. The next step is to
determine whether sintering or alternative construction would be the best way to
utilize the material

Solar and Wind Power Used to Charge Vehicles
Luis Ramírez, CEO of GE Energy Industrial Solutions joined Connecticut Governor
Dannel Malloy and GE employees to unveil the GE Electric Vehicle (EV) Solar
Carport in Plainville, CT. The GE EV Solar Carport Project, one of the most
expansive undertakings of its type in North America, uses GE’s new smart EV
Charging Stations to charge the electric vehicles hitting the streets of
America.
The GE EV Solar Carport produces the energy equivalent to power 20 homes per
year. With greater than a 25-year lifespan, the EV Solar Carport will annually
deliver 125 MW hours via 100 kW DC power. According to the Electric Drive
Transportation Association, more than half of American drivers today travel less
than 30 miles in a typical day and more than 75 percent travel less than 60
miles. EVs with a range of 50-100 miles could easily meet the daily needs of
most customers.
“Consumers want the convenience and peace of mind knowing they can get from
point A to point B without running out of energy,” adds Ramírez. “GE is working
with a number of utilities and municipalities, in the U.S. and abroad, to
address this issue of creating a widely distributed network of electric vehicle
charging stations. The presence of ubiquitous, Level 2 charging will make
consumers far less worried about their car running out of power.”
The carport incorporates GE’s infrastructure technology, utilizing GE EverGold*
Safety Switches and GE Combiner Boxes along with the GE EV Charging Stations.
GE’s core AC equipment safely distributes the power generated from the solar
panels. The GE EV Solar Carport connects to the grid, where it deposits extra
energy and withdraws that energy when needed.
On the day that Whitelee Windfarm was presented with a Queen’s Award for
Sustainability from The Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire, its owners
ScottishPower Renewables switched on what is believed to be the UK’s first
electric vehicle charging point directly linked to a windfarm. If it proves to
be popular, the company would consider installing further charging posts and
potentially develop more charging points at other windfarm locations.
The wider ScottishPower group is currently part of a Transport Scotland-led
consortium seeking to create a corridor of up to 375 electric vehicle charging
points across the central belt of Scotland. It has also recently taken delivery
of four electric vehicles to be used across different areas of its business.
This is part of another electric vehicle trial in Glasgow led by Allied Vehicles
which focuses on fleet vehicles used by businesses and local authorities. The
Elektrobay charging post installed at the wind farm is the same as 40 installed
in and around Glasgow supplied by Elektromotive as part of this trial.
Envision Solar International, Inc., a
leading sustainable infrastructure designer and developer announced that the
company has completed the design, engineering and fabrication of the first
commercial offering of its "Socket™" design, a mini Solar Tree® canopy. The
structure is being shipped to a site in northern California for installation in
July.
The Socket™ designed to provide shade for one vehicle, includes Envision's
proprietary EnvisionTrak® tracking technology, and one vehicle charging hookup.
The design generates enough clean solar energy each day for approximately a full
charge for an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid. The first prototype Socket was
announced and demonstrated in San Diego, CA at the California Center for
Sustainable Energy, in October of 2010. The announcement was concurrent with the
presentation of the new 2011 GM Volt for public viewing and test drives.
The Socket™ includes Envision's patent pending multi-axis EnvisionTrak™ solar
tracking system, which is designed to increase energy output by approximately
20% over a standard fixed PV array. The patent application describes a "Device
for Continuously Reorienting a Solar Panel".
Coconut Creek, FL, based SolarCarts is the designer and manufacturer of The Sun
Eagle™, a solar roof that transforms electric golf carts into solar-powered
hybrid carts. SolarCarts touts The Sun Eagle as a solar energy solution that
enables consumers to extend the range of their carts, prolong the life of their
costly cart batteries, all while reducing their energy costs and carbon
footprint.
Solar Carts, LLC is a technology driven company that provides golf cart owners
with reliable, highly efficient solar retrofits for electric golf carts. As
alternative energy becomes more relevant to today's world, SolarCarts is
dedicated to providing golf cart owners and operators with a viable, affordable
solar charging system. Their long-lasting, eco-friendly products will provide
sustainable solar energy for years to come - and can be transferred from one
cart to another as carts are replaced.
