Comprehensive Exhibitor Directory at EUEC

The McIlvaine OEM Directory has product listings for each subsidiary as well as parent companies.  All of the information is linked by specific identifiers such as a financial entity number and decisively classified products.   Also, previous stand coverage at conferences, InterWEBviews™ and application notes are all identified with the parent company through the financial entity number.  As a result for a conference such as EUEC, a directory can be instantly created which is orders of magnitude more useful than the conventional one.   McIlvaine will have a stand at EUEC and will look forward to your visit.

EUEC - McIlvaine Directory of Exhibitor Products

Hundreds of product categories in each of 28 process segments are listed for all the exhibitors at this Feb-3-5 show in Phoenix, AZ

Big FGD Retrofit Market in the U.S.

The market for upgrades and replacement in U.S. FGD systems will be more than $800 million per year.  This is the forecast appearing in the McIlvaine report, FGD Market and Strategies.  (www.mcilvainecompany.com There are more than 75,000 MW which are older than 20 years. Many of these units will require very substantial upgrades and replacement.

Finally, there are 65,000 MW of plants which are 5-10 years old.  These units will require replacement of nozzles, damper parts, instrumentation and possibly even mist eliminators. Ninety units were installed with 2205 stainless steel shells in the 2000-2008 timeframe.  Crevice corrosion had occurred in most of these units.  New linings or even wall papering with super-austenitic steel is required.

Agitators, pumps, fans, compressors, mist eliminators, ball mills, belt filters and other components also need to be periodically replaced.

Renewable Energy Brief

Globeleq to Build More Wind Generation in Central America

Globeleq, the leading wind energy company in Central America, announced the financial close and notice to proceed on construction of two wind generation projects in Costa Rica and Honduras.

Construction of the 50 MW Orosi project in Costa Rica and the 24 MW expansion of the existing 102 MW Cerro de Hula wind farm will be managed by Globeleq's majority owned subsidiary, Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy (GME).  Gamesa turbines have been chosen for both projects.

Equity will be contributed by Globeleq and its partner Mesoamerica Power through GME with project debt financing for Orosi being provided by the Export-Import Bank of the United States, Banco Internacional de Costa Rica (BICSA), and FMO, The Netherlands Development Finance Company.  The Cerro de Hula expansion will be funded by GME, the Export-Import Bank of the United States and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.

GME was awarded by ICE, the Costa Rican national utility, to build, own and operate an additional four 20 MW projects in Costa Rica.  This would build on GME's position as the leading wind generation company in Central America by adding to its existing operations of the Cerro de Hula wind farm in Honduras, the 44 MW Eolo wind generation facility in Nicaragua and the 23 MW Plantas Eolicas in Costa Rica.

Abengoa to Develop South America’s Largest Solar-thermal Plant in Chile

Abengoa has been selected by the Ministry of Energy of the Chilean Government and Corfo (Corporacion de Fomento de la Produccion) to develop a 110 MW solar plant using tower technology with 17.5 hours of thermal energy storage using molten salts. The project will be located in the Atacama Desert, the region with the highest solar radiation concentrations in the world. It will be the first solar-thermal plant for direct electricity production in South America.

Abengoa's project won the international tender launched by the Chilean Ministry of Energy and Corfo to construct the first Concentrated Solar Power plant in Latin America. As part of this tender, the project will receive direct subsidies from the Chilean Government and the European Union, as well as financing from the Inter-American Development Bank, KFW Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau, the Clean Technology Fund and Canadian Fund.

Solar-thermal tower technology uses a series of mirrors (heliostats) that track the sun on two axes, concentrating the solar radiation on a receiver on the upper part of the tower where the heat is transferred to the molten salts. The salts then transfer their heat in a heat exchanger to a water current to generate superheated and reheated steam, which feeds a turbine capable of generating around 110 MW of power.

The solar plant will also have a pioneering thermal storage system with 17.5 hours of storage that has been designed and developed by Abengoa. This makes the technology highly manageable, enabling it to supply electricity in a stable way, 24 hours a day, responding to all periods of electricity demand.

Canadian Solar Connects its 10 MW Solar Power Plant in the Jiangsu Province to the State Grid

Canadian Solar Inc. announced the successful completion and grid connection of a 10 MW ground mounted solar power project in Sihong County of Jiangsu Province in eastern China. This project was developed by CSI Solar Power (China) Inc., a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, with Gaochuangte New Energy as the EPC contractor.

Construction on the project commenced in September 2013 and grid connection was completed in December 2013. Approximately 40,788 CS6P-245P modules with power output of 245Wp were used. The average annual electricity generation from this solar power plant is projected to be over 11 million kWh.

Toshiba to Supply Key Equipment for Geothermal Power Plant in Turkey

Toshiba Corporation announced that the company has won a major order in Turkey to supply key equipment, including turbines, generators and condensers, for the Alasehir geothermal power plant that Zorlu Enerji, an independent power producer and member of the Zorlu Energy Group, will build in Alasehir, in western Turkey’s Manisa Province. Toshiba will start to install the equipment in October 2014, and the plant is scheduled to come online in 2015.

Electricity consumption in Turkey is growing fast, driven by population growth and economic development. Estimates from the International Energy Agency (IEA) indicate that demand will more than double in the next decade. The Turkish government is responding by promoting capacity expansion, including doubling geothermal power generation from 300 megawatts (MW). Most of these plants will be built in the geothermal-rich Aegean Region, in the west of the country.

Toshiba will install total 40 MW of two systems: a 30 MW flash steam generation system that pulls hot water under high pressure into a separator to produce steam; and a 10 MW binary cycle power facility that uses lower temperature fluid to vaporize a liquid with a lower boiling point. It is the first time for Toshiba to supply geothermal power equipments in Turkey.

Toshiba has installed 52 geothermal systems around the world, including North America, Southeast Asia and Europe, with a combined capacity of 2,800 MW.

Flux Power Provides Lithium Storage for HDT Global Solar Power Solution for Military Field Operations

Flux Power® Holdings, Inc., an innovator in advanced lithium energy storage systems, has agreed to provide HDT Global, a leading provider of highly-engineered mobile military and emergency response solutions, with portable lithium-ion storage packs for HDT’s renewable solar energy solution designed to power military electronics in the field.

Flux is providing 4.1 kilowatt/hour, 24-volt portable lithium power packs to provide high performance storage for HDT’s innovative renewable power solution.

The military has typically relied on generators and costly and hazardous long-distance fuel deliveries to meet their in-field power needs. HDT has integrated Flux’s portable power packs into its self-sustaining system that uses solar panels to charge the power packs, significantly reducing its reliance on generators.

Flux’s lithium-ion battery technology and battery management systems support high efficiency storage in a light and durable unit. In addition, the unit’s charge/discharge rate, longer average cycle time and absence of noise emission make Flux power packs ideal for remote military operations in extreme conditions.
