BLOCK ANDREWS – BURNS & McDONNELL
BIO: Block Andrews currently serves as Strategic Environmental Solutions Director at Burns & McDonnell. In his role, Block evaluates impacts of environmental legislation and regulation on industry. He has worked in the power industry for 20 years and has successfully permitted over 10,000 MW of power generation. For six years, Block was Director of Environmental Services for Aquila. In this role, he oversaw environmental compliance, risk mitigation and strategic direction for Aquila. Block assisted in development of the Aquila's integrated resource plans and developed the company's first greenhouse gas report. Block is a registered professional engineer and has a Masters Degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois.
JARRET McCLENDON – NATRONX
BIO: Jarret McClendon has a BS in chemical engineering from Michigan State University. In addition he is a Master’s Degree candidate in chemical engineering as well. His career includes five years of experience as a project engineer and project manager in environmental projects with an energy company encompassing a coal-fired fleet. Jarret’s background includes both injection projects to remove mercury, NOx reduction, and SOx. Currently Jarret is an Applications Engineer with Natronx to support Dry Sorbent Injection trials using Trona and Sodium Bicarbonate to remove acid gases.
ABSTRACT: Trona has the ability not to just reduce SO2 emissions but also HCl emissions as well. It has been seen at trials that trona can reduce as much as 98 percent of HCl in the field. Contributors to this efficiency of removal are factors such as particle size, injection temperature, and milling of sorbent.
ANN BREWSTER WEEKS – CLEAN AIR TASK FORCE
BIO: Ann Brewster Weeks has worked with CATF since its inception in 1996. She represents non-profit environmental and health organizations in administrative proceedings and in Federal court, as part of a campaign to reduce pollution from and mitigate the climate change impacts of electric generating stations. Ms. Weeks has worked in this capacity to gain Clean Air Act regulation of air toxics emissions from electricity generating units, since 1998.
Prior to joining CATF, Ms. Weeks worked with the Energy Program at Conservation Law Foundation, and as an Associate with the Energy and Environmental practice at Dickstein, Shapiro, LLC, in their Washington, D.C. office. Ann holds a J. D. from the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an S. M. with a thesis on technology and policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.S. from Boston University in Engineering, with a minor concentration in Chemistry.
ABSTRACT: EPA's MATS Rule is currently in litigation. Ms. Weeks will briefly discuss the history and current status of the MATS Rule, and the expected timeline both for the litigation and for MATS Rule implementation.
RICHARD MIMNA – CALGON CARBON CORP.
BIO: Senior Research Associate at Calgon Carbon Corporation. Development of next generation activated carbon products for the control of mercury and other pollutants from combustion gas streams. Design and conduct commercial demonstration trials with clients in the electric utility and cement industries to help them meet their emissions targets in a cost-effective manner.

ABSTRACT: “How to Guarantee the Lowest Cost Activated Carbon Treatment Solution”
This presentation will describe how to design and optimize an activated carbon testing program to arrive at the most cost effective emissions control solution and present actual case studies and results of testing programs.
