“Update on Gasification Projects and Technology”
ALISON KERESTER – GASIFICATION TECHNOLOGIES COUNCIL
JEFF PHILLIPS - EPRI

BIO: Jeff joined EPRI in 2004 after spending 10 years with the Royal Dutch Shell group as well as time with Molten Metal Technology and Fern Engineering. During his time at Shell he provided technical support to the operation of a 250 tpd demonstration of the Shell Coal Gasification Process in Deer Park, Texas, and then was a part of the design and start-up team for a 2000 tpd gasifier that was part of a 250 MW IGCC built in the Netherlands in the early 1990s.
Jeff has an MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford as well undergraduate degrees from Washington University and Austin College.
ABSTRACT: The famous opening line of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities would provide an appropriate description for the current status of gasification technology: “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” This presentation will review some of the current projects which have generated good news about gasification and some projects which have generated bad news. The bad news has come from the US and Europe while the good news has come from a wide swath of Asia.
