BIO: Professor Axelbaum is the Jens Professor of Environmental Engineering Science and the Director of the Consortium for Clean Coal Utilization at Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL). He has over 65 peer-reviewed publications and holds four patents. Professor Axelbaum studies combustion phenomena, ranging from oxy-coal combustion to flame synthesis of nanotubes. Recently, his efforts have been focused on addressing global concerns over carbon dioxide emissions by developing approaches to carbon capture and storage (CCS).

ABSTRACT: Staged Pressurized Oxy-Combustion for Next Generation Carbon Capture and Storage

This talk will describe a novel system for carbon capture and storage (CCS) wherein coal and oxygen are combusted in stages under pressure.  This approach increases plant efficiency and is expected to reduce the cost of electricity as it addresses a number of the challenges associated with traditional oxy-combustion for carbon capture.

Mr. Devanna is a licensed Professional Engineer, holds an MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a Masters in Engineering from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts.

ABSTRACT: An Up-Date on Oxy-Fuel Combustion

The presentation provides an overview of CES’ progress in developing oxy-fuel combustion systems that serve as the core technology in producing zero emission power, CO2 for EOR operations, steam for SAGD applications and potable water. A description of the oxy-fuel gas generators and the recently developed oxy-fuel turbines is provided. The presentation discusses developing markets and CES’ product portfolio to address current and emerging opportunities.
