BRAD BUECKER - KIEWIT POWER ENGINEERS

BIO:
I have been involved directly with or consulting to the power industry for over
30 years. Highlights include,
* Over 12 years at City, Water, Light & Power in Springfield, Illinois.
Positions included lab chemist, flue gas desulfurization engineer, and results
engineer.
* An additional 5.5 years at Kansas City Power & Light Company's La Cygne power
plant. I spent four years as Plant Chemist and then moved to Air Quality Control
Specialist.
* Four years with Burns & McDonnell Engineers.
* I have worked in positions providing inside sales and technical support to
sales personnel and other staff.
* Direct experience with wet-limestone flue gas desulfurization; selective
catalytic reduction; steam generator makeup water, cooling water, and wastewater
treatment; steam generation chemistry control and monitoring; condenser
performance monitoring; PLC programming and other technologies.
TOM MUILENBERG – MIOX

BIO: Tom Muilenberg joined MIOX in 2008 and has nearly 20 years of experience in the water treatment industry. He started in 1993 with General Filter Company, which in the following years became part of Siemens Water Technologies through a variety of acquisitions. Over the years, he has held a variety of sales management roles, most recently as Director of Commercial Operations at MIOX. Tom has a wide variety of product and process experience including conventional physical chemical and membrane products for both municipal and industrial applications. His expertise in the cooling tower industry include design of pretreatment for cooling tower makeup water, cooling loop blowdown treatment, and cooling loop biological control. Tom holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
ABSTRACT: "Biological and biofilm control in cooling loops and towers is key to maintaining proper cooling efficiency. MIOX will be discussing a novel approach using on-site generated chlorine-based biocide that uses only salt, water and electricity to provide that control. The system not only enhances biofilm mitigation, but is highly cost-effective and improves worker and plant safety."
STEPHEN DOMINICK - OVIVO WATER USA

BIO: Steve is a regional manager for Ovivo Water USA. Ovivo Water USA provides all the equipment needed to treat cooling water from surface supplies, and from closed loop cooling systems. Ovivo has a large installation of cooling water trash rakes, intake screens, debris filters and automatic condenser tube cleaning systems, as well as a large installation list for high purity cycle make up systems using ion exchange and membranes and condensate treatment systems for high pressure power plant boilers. He has more than 42 years of experience in the water and wastewater treatment industry with Siemens, US Filter, Permutit, and Graver. From operating municipal drinking water plants, to developing waste to energy anaerobic digesters projects, and water reuse applications, he has been involved in many large water and wastewater projects in his career for almost every major industry where boilers produce steam and power is generated, and organic or inorganic waste needs to be treated. He has a bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana.
BERNARD DOLL – PALL CORPORATION
BIO: Bernhard Doll has19 years of filtration, separation, and purification experience serving customers in industrial and municipal markets. At Pall, Bernhard has held a series of sales and management positions while gaining considerable expertise and knowledge in the field of membrane separation systems for water and wastewater treatment. He currently holds the position of Vice President, Marketing for Industrial Water globally. Bernhard earned his diploma in Mechanical Engineering during his studies at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund, Germany.
ABSTRACT: Significant Cost Savings Obtained Using Advanced Membrane Systems for Cooling Tower Water Treatment
Driven by the demand for continuous process improvements to increase plant efficiency and lower customer costs, power plants around the world are striving to upgrade conventional water treatment systems. One way they are achieving this is by employing reliable membrane technologies such as microfiltration. Case studies highlighting improvements in water quality and improved economics, especially in cooling tower blowdown water treatment and reuse will highlight the latest membrane technologies that can help power plants reduce costs, improve processes, and optimize water footprint.
ROBERT BARTHOLOMEW – SHEPPARD T. POWELL ASSOCIATES
BIO: Robert (Bob) Bartholomew, PE (B.S.CHE) joined STPA in 1986. He provides consulting services in the areas of steam/water cycle chemistry, chemistry manual development, training, chemical cleanings, makeup water treatment, cooling water treatment, and evaluations of deposition and damage in boilers, condensers, and turbines for the power, cogeneration, pulp & paper and other industries. Bob has performed numerous equipment inspections of boilers, HRSG units, deaerators, and condensers. He has authored or coauthored over 30 technical publications including topics ranging from chemical cleaning, makeup water treatment, boiler water treatment, failure investigations, startup, and cooling water treatment. Mr. Bartholomew is actively involved in the ASME Research & Technology Committee on Water and Steam in Thermal Systems. In 2009, Mr. Bartholomew received the Paul Cohen award at the International Water Conference.
