BIO:  Steven A. Jaasund is Manager of the Geoenergy Division of A. H. Lundberg Associates, Inc. in Bellevue, Washington.  Mr. Jaasund has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Lafayette College, an MS in Engineering (Air Resources) from the University of Washington and is a registered professional engineer in Arizona.  He has over 40 years of professional experience in the field of emission control technology with a primary emphasis on wet ESPs and related technologies.

 

ABSTRACT:  Wet ESPs for PM2.5 Control from Utility Boilers”

 

Recently proposed MACT rules for utility boilers may require the addition of particulate control equipment. Wet electrostatic precipitator technology is a logical add-on alternative to help meet these rules. This is particularly true if boiler emissions are already being treated with a wet FGD system. This presentation will explore the pros and cons of retrofit wet ESPs in the utility environment.

BIO:  John D. McKenna, Ph.D., is principal and founder of ETS, Inc. where he provides environmental training, testing, troubleshooting and testimony related to air pollution control. He has more than forty years of experience in fabric filter applications and has coauthored texts and on-line courses titled “Fabric Filter – Baghouses I Theory, Design, and Selection” and “Fine Particle (2.5 microns) Emissions Regulations, Measurement, and Control.”

 

ABSTRACT:  Compliance Strategy Options and Costs for PM 2.5 Control

 

A number of options available to control PM 2.5 for utility coal-fired boilers will be addressed. Capital and operating cost will be compared for three alternatives:  electrostatic precipitators, pulse jet and reverse air baghouses. A hypothetical example is developed in detail. The pros and cons of each option will be discussed.
