ORY SELZER – CCI VALVE

Bio: Ory Selzer received his M.S in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in Fluid/Thermal Sciences from the University of California Irvine. He is currently a Valve Doctor at CCI Valve. The title “Valve Doctor” refers to an engineer with 10+ years of experience in the industry and is a proven expert in both severe service and in a particular field of study. Mr. Selzer's specialty lies in steam conditioning and desuperheating applications in both power and CHP industries.
Abstract: An Investigation into the Important Requirements of Severe Service Control Valves, as they apply to Steam and Water Applications in a Modern Power Plant
Though specific application based information and data is often needed to select the proper control valve, there are several key parameters that can be considered as starting points for proper selection in any application. These parameters will be presented and discussed during this brief seminar.

Abstract: Pressure Locking and Thermal Binding in Wedge Gate and Parallel Slide Gate Valves
The thermal binding and pressure locking phenomena are based on well-known concepts. The determination of when the phenomena might occur requires a thorough knowledge of systems and plant operations. Pressure locking or thermal binding occurs as a result of the valve design characteristics (seating designs, body configuration and material of construction thermal coefficients) when the valve is subject to specific pressures and temperatures during the plant operation. The other factor for these phenomena indicates that situations were not always considered as part of the design basis for valves in many plants.
