BIO:

 

 

ABSTRACT: Using SO3 to condition the flue gas of boilers burning low-sulfur coal is going to face a new challenge: Mercury control, since SO3 inhibits the mercury removal by either fly ash or powdered activated carbon (PAC).  A better alternative is to inject trona into flue gas upstream of hot-side or cold-side ESP.  It can lower the resistivity of flyash and solve the problem of back corona due to “sodium depletion” of hot-side ESP.  In addition, the added trona can remove SO3 and thus improve the mercury removal.  The trona addition system is simple and its capital cost is much lower than that of SO3 production and injection system.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PAUL LEANZA – POLLUTION CONTROL SERVICES

 

BIO: Paul is the Senior Technical Engineer for Post Combustion Control Equipment , with Pollution Control Services, Inc.  PCS was started in 1998 to provide experienced on-site consultant services for Wet-FGD Scrubbers, WESP, ESP, Baghouse, SCR and Dry Injection Systems.  Paul started with Forry, Inc in 1988 which was a major supplier of precipitator automatic voltage and rapper controls.  Paul also worked for Southern Environmental, Inc and TRK Engineering prior to joining PCS in 2002.

 

ABSTRACT: This presentation will focus on evaluating existing precipitators ability to the future PM2.5 regulations.  The majority of existing ESP’s are not operating under their original design basis.  Many existing ESPs have not been upgraded with modern operating philosophies or equipment.  Taking a holistic approach in evaluating the precipitator in its current operating parameters permit a viable plan forward as the operating parameters have been modified as additional post combustion control equipment like SO2, SO3, NOx, and Hg control have been incorporated over the last 15 years.

 

TAPAN MUKHERJEE – ALSTOM POWER

 

BIO: Director Business Development, Environmental Services Operation, Alstom Power.

 

Education: Advanced Degree in Environmental Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from India.

 

Professional Experience: Working in Air Pollution Control industry with Flkat/ ABB/ Alstom over 30 years in various capacities: Application Engineer, Product Manager, Technology Manager, Currently heading Business Development for Environmental Services Group for rebuilding ESP's, Conversion to FF's, upgrade of Scrubbers and SCR systems.

 

ABSTRACT: "Performance of existing ESP's can be enhanced by utilizing multiple techniques. PM removal efficiency within the confines of a box can improve by changing electrode geometry (plate spacing), internals like discharge electrodes, rapping system as well as by replacing conventional T/R sets with High Frequency Power Supplies and advanced controllers. Although Fabric Filters are more widely used in green field plants as PM collector with activated carbon system for Mercury control, proven technology is now available to achieve high rate of mercury removal keeping the existing ESP as PM collector."

 

HARRY WHEELER – ALSTOM POWER

 

BIO: Education: BSEE University of Alabama 

Professional Experience: Working in the Air Pollution Control Industry with PCW/CEW/CEESD/ABB/Flakt/Alstom for over 35 years as Design engineer, Principal engineer, Applications Engineer, and Product Manager. Currently responsible for technical offers and pre-contract engineering in the Environmental Services Group for rebuilding ESPs, conversion of ESPs to FF's, etc.

 

HELMUT HERDER – NWL

 

BIO: Born, raised and educated in West Germany.

Education: Diploma Electro mechanical from State school of Automobile & Air Technology, Hamburg, Germany. He started his working Currier with the Bosh organization.  After moving to the United States he worked for Kienzle and then for VDO. In 1980 he started with NWL and presently is Vice President with responsibility for Product management, Marketing, Sales and New Business Development.
