CHARLES ALACK – SEMI BULK SYSTEMS
BIO: Mr. Alack co-founded the Company 35 years ago. He has a BS in Mechanical engineering from LSU and a minor in Business Administration. Prior to starting the Company, he was employed by Monsanto Company for 11 years where he worked in Manufacturing, Central Engineering, Specialty Chemical Sales, Commercial Development and Product Marketing. Mr. Alack has a number of patents and broad experience in powder handling and processing, and powder/liquid mixing processes for both the food and the chemical industries. He developed modular processes incorporating the Vacucam® Ejector Mixer Technology to efficiently slurry pulverized limestone for FGD in power plants. The company provides many other modular process solutions incorporating the VACUCAM® Slurry Technology for applications in food, dairy, beverage, chemical and other industrial applications. Mr. Alack is a registered Professional Engineer in Louisiana and Missouri.
ABSTRACT: Limestone Supply Options and Limestone Slurry Process Technology for FGD Projects
Typical Limestone slurry for FGD has traditionally been supplied by wet ball mill processes utilizing crushed limestone. This process requires a considerable commitment by the power plant to operate a very inefficient process for crushed limestone handling on site and for operating inefficient wet ball mill processes requiring considerable operation cost, maintenance costs, energy costs with less than reliable slurry production.
Semi-Bulk Systems will introduce technology relating to handling large volumes of pulverized limestone powders and very efficiently producing 30%+ limestone slurry to meet any scrubber demands. The process requires minimal real estate, operator attention and maintenance. The VACUCAM® Ejector Mixer Process for limestone dispersions is highly automated with no moving parts for powder delivery from silo to the Mixer and provides efficient dispersion of limestone slurries. Semi-Bulk Systems will describe the pulverized limestone slurry processes recently supplied to Minnesota Power, Southern Power and Ameren power plants.

ABSTRACT: Both existing and future environmental regulations are creating new demands and challenges for today's power plants to install material handling systems for many types of retrofit projects including, wet to dry ash conversions to eliminate ash ponds, fabric filter waste ash removal systems, and dry sorbent injection. Clyde Bergemann Delta Ducon will provide an overview of these systems and discuss specific considerations effecting the successful implementation of these technologies in a modern power plant.

BIO: I am the National Sales Manager for our Sorb-N-Ject Technology group. I have been a part of the pneumatic conveying industry for 21 years designing dense and dilute phase systems. I have been a part of the dry sorbent injection industry for the last six years.

BIO: Kevin currently holds the position of Director of Sales Americas for UCC. He has worked at UCC for 11 years holding positions of project engineer, project manager, and sales manager. He holds a BSEnvE and MS Mining Engineering from University of Montana.
BIO: Dan currently holds the position of Vice President of Sales and Technology. He has worked at UCC for 30 years holding position in Field Service, New Product Development, Engineering, and Sales. He holds a BSChE from the University of Notre Dame, and a MBA from the University of Chicago.
ABSTRACT: Our presentation will introduce multiple technical options to convert wet ash handling systems to dry ash handlings systems eliminating the need for ash ponds. Bottom Ash and Fly Ash systems will be discussed. Discussion will include criteria for selection of the appropriate conversion technology relative to unique plant conditions.
GERALD HUIRAS – FLSMIDTH PFISTER

BIO: Gerald is President & CEO of FLSmidth Pfister, Inc. in the FLSmidth group of companies. Gerald joined FLS Pfister Inc. in 2002 as a Vice President for the North American Operations. Pfister is the division within FLSmidth responsible for supplying high accuracy dosing, weighing and metering systems for a variety of dry bulk materials, including coal and pet-coke systems to firing processes. During his early career he worked globally as development and commissioning engineer for high temperature kilns and dryers in the ceramic industry, with the focal point being process optimization. He has a degree in Electronics Engineering and Thermal Heat Processing Models, and in his present position he is able to draw on his production and field experience in the cement and ceramics industries with nearly thirteen years in engineering, R & D, commissioning and management in the manufacturing sector, in addition to his nine years with FLSmidth Pfister.

FLSmidth Pfister has been meeting combustion and emission needs in the power industry for twenty years. This presentation will outline our experience with designing, operating, and implementing complete solutions using coal together with alternative fuels, specifically bio-solids, to meet permitted limits as well as burner and firing chamber requirements.
