Andy Bernard - Blome International
BIO - Andy Bernard is a partner in Blome International. He began his corrosion control career in 1974 working in a coatings lab in Saint Louis MO. His professional experience includes Power Industry Manager, Technical Sales Representative, owner of a large coating Distribution company in Saint Louis, MO and most recently a co-owner of Blome. Andy is a member of NACE and SSPC and provides arbitration services for the Saint Louis Bar Association. Andy holds an undergraduate degree in Marketing and a Masters Degree in Finance from the University of Denver.
ABSTRACT - With the mandate of the "scrubber island" at many coal fired power plants, a process which was not particularly corrosive has become a main source of concern for Utilities. The previously hot, dry flow has now turned into a warm wet corrosive gas stream that can be very detrimental to materials of construction in the FGD stream. ABSTRACT - An Advanced Super-Austenitic Stainless Steel for FGD Service
As our economy strives for increasingly efficient operation of equipment and reduced costs, engineers are demanding improved performance from economical materials. While nickel-base, corrosion-resistant alloys have been proven to resist aggressive corrosive conditions in FGD service, their cost limits their use. INCOLOY alloy 27-7MO is a7% molybdenum advanced grade of super-austenitic stainless steel that offers corrosion resistance approaching that of alloy C-276, excellent fabricability, and superior strength at a significantly lower cost.
Dan Johnson – Omega Atomizers

BIO - Dan Johnson is President of Omega Atomizers – SDA Engineers. Omega is an independent supplier of repair and replacement parts for spray dry absorbers (atomizers) used in flue gas desulfurization. Educated as a metallurgical engineer, he is experienced in materials selection and manufacturing processes in aircraft, automotive and oil and gas exploration in addition to the power generating industry. He is inventor of two US Patents and author of numerous technical articles.
ABSTRACT - Flue gas desulfurization (FGD), in any form, requires some specific corrosion resistant materials. There are two fundamental processes used in FGD – dry and wet scrubbing. While the chemistry at the start and end point is very similar, dry and wet scrubbers have significantly different material requirements in mitigating corrosion. Wet and dry FGD are compared considering corrosion implications during and after process.
Ben Bogner – AOC L.L.C.

BIO - Ben R. Bogner is a Market Specialist for AOC where he focuses on composites used in infrastructure and chemical resistant applications. He has 30 years of experience developing composite materials with special emphasis in structural composites, composite processing and applications development. He is a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the Illinois and a Chartered Engineer (C Eng) in the United Kingdom. He also holds eight patents and has presented over twenty-five papers on the use of composite materials and composite processing.
ABSTRACT - Fiberglass Reinforced Polymers (FRP) Composites have found utility in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) equipment. This presentation will discuss the basic corrosion properties of FRP Composites and give some examples of their use in scrubbers, tanks, pipe and stack liners.
