Wet Limestone FGD and SCR for 1000 MW Standard Design in Korea
After developing standard designs for 500-and 800-MW supercritical and advanced supercritical coal-fired power plants, Korea Power Engineering Company (KOPEC) and Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) are now working on a 1000-MW design. The goal is have this design ready for power plants built for 2012 operation. This design will incorporate a high-efficiency electrostatic precipitator, wet limestone-gypsum FGD system, two-stage low NOx burners and SCR.
NOx emissions will be less than 15 ppm (reduction of more than 90 percent), with anhydrous ammonia used for the SCR and NH3 slip less than 2 ppm. The FGD system will have an SO2 removal efficiency of more than 97 percent, produce SO2 emissions of less than 20 ppm and produce saleable gypsum. Dong-Chun Youk, Do-Youn Cho, Yong-Jun Shin, and Chi-Seob Lee of KOPEC and Chong-Young Kim of KEPRI told Power-Gen Europe attendees that SO3 will be removed by the non-leakage GGH and ESP. The SO3 will condense onto the flyash in the GGH.
