New Wallboard Plants in NC and PA to Use FGD Gypsum

National Gypsum Co. has unveiled plans to build a $125 million wallboard plant and create at least 100 jobs in Mount Holly, Gaston County, North Carolina. National Gypsum's plant will produce up to one billion square feet of wallboard annually at speeds of more than 500 feet a minute. Construction will begin next year and the plant is expected to be on line by the third quarter of 2007. National Gypsum will team up with Duke Power Co. to use some of the byproduct gypsum produced at Duke's coal-fired power plants.

United States Gypsum Company is planning a $180 million wallboard plant in Washingtonville, Pennsylvania. The plant will use FGD gypsum from PPL Corp.’s power plant near Danville, PA.

Dayton Power and Light has a contract with U.S. Gypsum to use its FGD gypsym at a wallboard plant in Pittsburgh, PA.
