Large Number of FGD Contracts Decided including 4400 MW for Chiyoda

Utility companies are moving up their scrubber installation dates to take advantage of the higher allowance prices. A number of awards or decisions have been recently made. The following information is all second hand and was not confirmed by either the utility or the supplier. Nevertheless each represents information received from at least two reliable sources.  Another caveat is that decisions can change. The MidAmerican project is a good example where the selected scrubber vendor and client could not agree on terms and another vendor eventually was awarded the contract.

Some system vendors are unhappy with the fact that we are reporting awards which are still in negotiation. We therefore want to make clear that we are only reporting the information which is commonly known among the failed bidders and component suppliers. It is important for all parties to have as much of the latest information as possible even though it is subject to change.

4400 MW of scrubbers at AEP plants are slated for Black & Veatch, which is offering the Chiyoda design.  AEP awards to B&V (Chiyoda) reportedly include Cardinal (some of the two 615-MW and 650-MW units), 816-MW Big Sandy 2, 585-MW Muskingum River 5, 780-MW Conesville 4, and 5x260-MW Kyger Creek. B&W has also been reportedly selected by AEP for Amos 1, 2, and 3.

No announcements have been made and possibly no contracts signed on LG&E  556-MW Ghent 2-4 and 446-MW  E.W. Brown 3  stations, but we are told that Babcock Power is the only remaining bidder with the last contender recently eliminated. Babcock Power is also supplying an FGD unit for 446-MW PacifiCorp Huntington 2.

Wheelabrator has received recent orders for FGD systems at 790-MW Brunner Island 3, 359-MW, 694-MW Chesterfield 5 and 6, 315-MW, 280-MW Winyah 1 and 2, and 2x806 MW Montour 1 and 2. Wheelabrator is also upgrading the scrubbers at 3x913-MW Bruce Mansfield 1-3, according to our sources.

Advatech has an order for the Indianapolis Power & Light Harding Station. URS, which is one of the joint venture partners in Advatech, is converting Winyah 3 and 4 to forced oxidation.
