IHI to Supply Maritsa FGD
Maritsa Iztok 2 thermal power plant (Bulgaria) has signed a €226 million agreement for the rehabilitation of its Units 1 to 4 with Mitsui from Japan. The project will also involve rehabilitation of Maritsa Iztok 2 Units 5 and 6. The overhaul is expected to raise the output capacity of the plant's older section from 500 to 700 MW, extend its life by at least 20 years, ensure trouble-free and safe operation, and reduce SO2 emissions.
Contractors for the rehabilitation of Units 1 to 4 and the builders of the FGD unit will be the Toshiba Corporation Power Systems and Services Company and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. Maritsa Iztok 2 at 1450 MW is the largest thermal power plant in the Balkans fuelled by brown coal. Work to restore, upgrade, and install FGD at the 840 MW Maritsa East 3 thermal power plant has officially begun.
