Catalyst Regeneration Plant Starts Up

SCR-Tech LLC has opened a facility to regenerate catalyst from coal-fired power plants. The American division of SCR-Tech has 45,000 square feet in Charlotte, NC. The facility can regenerate more than 5000 m3 of catalyst per year. Construction costs were $2-3 million. For half the cost of replacing catalyst, SCR-Tech will clean the catalyst modules so they can be reused, typically for another two years of continuous operation. This also saves the utility on disposal costs, the company says.

SCR-Tech is investing $2 to $3 million in the facility. Workers will earn $10 to $15 an hour, said Hans Hartenstein, president of SCR-Tech. Plant manager Frank Wenz said he hopes to have 30 employees in 18 months but has 20 now. The world’s only other catalyst regeneration facility is owned by SCR-Tech's parent company in Wildeshausen, Germany
