Midwesco Filter Resources has received a contract
totaling $3.8 million to supply 39,744 filters to the Four Corners Generating
Plant of Arizona Public Service.
The contract, the largest in Midwesco Filter's
history, entails the conversion of approximately 500,000 yards (280 miles) of
high-temperature woven fiberglass into engineered filter elements that will
remove airborne particulates from the emissions of the 2270-megawatt, coal-fired
power plant. The work will be performed over a four-year period. According to
Gene Ogilvie, president of Midwesco Filter, each filter is a 12-inch tube, 34
feet in length, which, when installed, forms a gas-tight seal capable of
filtering greater than 99 percent of the particulates from the plant's exhaust.
The contract represents the second time that Midwesco Filter was chosen to
supply complete replacement filtration elements for this plant.
Arizona Public Service's Four Corners plant, one
of the largest coal-fired plants in North America, is mandated by EPA
regulations to remove virtually all particulates from the gas stream leaving its
boilers. The reliability and performance of the filter system is critical to the
plant's ability to deliver uninterrupted power at maximum capacity within the
required emission standards.
Midwesco Filter is a subsidiary of MFRI, and
manufactures and sells filter elements for dust collectors used for air
filtration. MFRI is located in Niles, IL.
