BHA Toots Drayton Horns

BHA Group Holdings, Inc.. has acquired Drayton Corp.'s Sound-Off Acoustic Cleaner product line. The purchase was completed on January 26, 1999. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Acoustic horns are used in various industries to assist the operating efficiency of air pollution control equipment. A common problem in fabric filter dust collectors and electrostatic precipitators is the excessive buildup of dust on the equipment's internal mechanisms and hoppers, leading to poor filtering performance, increased maintenance, and increased energy costs. Acoustic horns help solve this problem by producing bursts of low frequency, high intensity sound waves that break apart impacted dust without damaging the equipment.

BHA currently offers a line of acoustic horns for use primarily in fabric filter dust collectors. The Drayton acoustic products have a successful track record in precipitators and other hot gas applications. BHA plans to merge these two product lines into a single family of acoustic products that will be marketed to utility and industrial customers around the world. As part of the agreement, Jake Shelton, President of Drayton Corp., will join BHA as Technical Director-Acoustics.

Jim Thome, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of BHA Group Holding, Inc., said, "By combining the product and application experience of Drayton and BHA, we can now offer a more comprehensive family of acoustic horns that have proven themselves in almost every type of utility and industrial application."
