Ogden Energy Group, Inc. has issued a contract worth approximately $8 million to ABB Environmental Systems (ABB ES) to supply emission control equipment to a waste-to-energy facility in Tulsa, OK.

Under terms of the agreement, ABB ES will supply and construct three dry scrubber/fabric filter systems — including all ductwork, controls, induced draft fans and a lime supply system. The systems will control acid gases to include sulfur dioxide (SO2) and particulate emissions from the plant's three municipal solid waste (MSW)-fired boilers.

Equipment deliveries will begin in late 1999, with commercial operation scheduled for mid-2000.

ABB will supply and install emissions reduction equipment at Alcoa's Warrick County, IN, and Wenatchee, WA, aluminum smelter plants. A strategic alliance between Alcoa Inc., SNC Lavalin Inc. and Fluor Daniel Inc. awarded ABB the two contracts valued at a total of approximately $30 million.

The contract will be executed by a project team consisting of ABB Environmental Systems, Knoxville, TN, USA, and ABB Environmental, Oslo, Norway.

Under terms of the agreement, ABB will supply and install three potline gas treatment centers (GTC) with alumina handling systems. Two will be installed at the Warrick County facility and one at the Wenatchee plant. The new systems will replace existing fluid bed scrubbers at both facilities. Equipment deliveries will begin in June 1999, with commercial operation scheduled for June 2000.

The GTC is a dry fume treatment and fluoride recovery system with fabric filters that collects and treats gases emitted from aluminum production cells and recovers valuable fluorides by injecting alumina as a sorbent. The systems are being installed to meet each state's Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) requirements, as stipulated in the latest amendments to the Clean Air Act.

The GTCs will use ABB's patented Abart technology, a unique countercurrent process developed by ABB in Norway for aluminum industry applications. ABB in Norway is ABB's Center of Excellence for the aluminum industry, with more than 40 years experience as a supplier of GTCs worldwide.
