Air Products Supplying Gases for South Korean Silicon-Wafer Plant
Air Products, the Fortune 500 company headquartered off Hamilton Boulevard in
Trexlertown, has been awarded a contract to supply industrial gases for a $300
million silicon wafer plant in South Korea.
Air Products’ presence on the Korean peninsula is growing: The Lehigh Valley
industrial gases giant said that it has earned a contract to supply nitrogen and
liquid argon for a new $300 million South Korean manufacturing facility.
The deal involves MEMC Korea, which will operate a silicon wafer plant in
Cheonan.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Air Products did not break down how the deal
would affect Lehigh Valley operations, but spokeswoman Debbie Bauer said that
the company’s “continued success” supplying some of the world’s leading
semiconductor manufacturers contributes to its bottom line. MEMC is considered
among the top global wafer suppliers to the semiconductor industry, Air Products
said.
Some 27% of Air Products’ fiscal 2018 sales of $8.9 billion came from Asia,
according to its annual report, with the Trexlertown Fortune 500 company
operating about 170 production and distribution facilities within the continent.
