Quebec Metal Powders Offers Granulated Iron for PRBs, Source Zone Remediation

Quebec Metal Powders Ltd. (a member of the RioTinto Group) has developed a high purity granular iron it calls “H2Omet” for use in permeable reactive barriers for groundwater remediation, injection or source zone remediation. The granular iron is available in different size distributions. It contains low levels of trace elements, making it suitable for groundwater remediation, according to the company. Benoit Laplante, director of sales and administration at Quebec Metal Powders, says that the price of iron on the market worldwide will remain high due to China’s growing demand. The price of scrap iron fluctuates. Processing scrap iron to remove oils and granulate the iron boosts the price of the final product, granular iron. Laplante explains that the company has its own mine and can offer H2Omet at a competitive price.
