The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is testing soil at the former Wallace Industries site in Ithaca, in response to a report by the Ithaca Journal about a history of contamination at the site. Oil from scrap metal stored on the property has seeped off scrap piles into Cayuga Inlet, which feeds Lake Cayuga. Documents also show that TCE was dumped on the property.
