Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants
Dewatering Treatment Process:
LIQUID FILTRATION NEWSLETTER, November 1993, No. 171 Ashbrook Corp. has installed twenty-four, high performance Winklepress® Belt Filter Presses in the Jones Island Wastewater Treatment Facility for the Municipal Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). This is the largest domestic installation of its kind under one roof. Fifty-ton cranes were used to position the 30,000-pound Winklepress® units inside a fifth-floor room. "This was a huge undertaking," said Ashbrook project manager Larry Packard, "that involved a lot of design customization to meet this client's special needs." The system is highly automated, and centrally controlled through a station consisting of thirty-six major control panels. The Ashbrook Winklepress® provided to MMSD contained such features as automatic belt tracking, automatic belt steering, stainless steel drainage lines, custom paint, unique press-mounted central lubrication, and a variety of innovative features. The units were designed to accommodate high loading rates while maximizing cake solids.
