FGD Training Seminar Covered History, Basics and Much More

Don Shattuck of Zachry led off the June 5 FGD Training Hot Topic Hour with the history of both the FGD technology and the regulations. His picture of a Cadillac showing what we thought we were providing and a Model T showing what we actually provided is a good insight to the future.  The FGD systems of tomorrow may make the present ones appear to be Model Ts. With carbon capture requiring gas purity of 1 ppm SO2 we are facing a whole new challenge.

Mike Mengel of Marsulex provided descriptions of presently available FGD systems. He also walked the participants through the chemistry and listed the materials options.  Diagrams showing the function and location of various components were particularly helpful to participants.

Bob McIlvaine explained how to use Power Plant Air Quality Systems to efficiently address the four knowledge needs: Alerts, Answers, Analysis, and Advancement.
