Power Plant Control Valves was the Hot Topic Yesterday

Valves for compressed air control in pulse jet dust collectors for boiler feedwater for steam and other applications was discussed by the experts.

John Brown, OEM Sales Manager for Midwesco Filter Resources, TDC Filters,  discussed reverse pulse jet filter cleaning systems including blowtubes and valve systems, nozzles, diaphragm and pilot valves, GOCO system analysis and valve problem diagnosis. Some good maintenance recommendations were made.

John Saik, Severe Service Sales Manager (Power) for Flowserve Valtek, discussed continuous control valve diagnostics in critical valve applications. Remote and continuous monitoring can distinguish between valves which need attention and those that do not. This can save time and money in an outage.

Lexa Prindle at SPX Flow Control, Copes Vulcan, discussed various valve designs for use in fossil fueled power plants. In boiler feedwater metal valve seats are limited by surface finish and metal grain structure. The seat deteriorates over time and has limited effectiveness for high differential pressure applications. These problems are overcome with a new soft seat material which can withstand up to 450°F.
