Latest Mercury Control Developments Will Be Reviewed In August 9 “Hot Topic Hour”

The utility industry is making a big investment in mercury control.  There is lots of activity and new developments.  McIlvaine is conducting “Hot Topic Hour” discussions of these developments every two months.

On August 9 there will be presentations by Jean Bustard of ADA-ES, Rob Nebergall of Norit, Chuck Miller of DOE, and Steve Derenne of We Energies.  Other presentations are still being finalized.  We would like to have some of the developments relative to chemical additives to wet scrubbers discussed.  Mercury oxidation with SCR or separate catalyst also is important.

The We Energies installation is really the first commercial mercury control system.  There have been minor problems, but they have been addressed as they occur.  It will be good to obtain the latest first hand account.

Chuck Miller will be reporting on palladium alloy catalyst sprayed onto the bags in a bench-scale fabric filter baghouse as well as updating us on other DOE projects.

ADA-ES continues to generate lots of interesting test data.

Norit is one of the major suppliers of activated carbon.

McIlvaine has extensively covered the use of the chloride pre-scrubber for mercury removal.  This subject will not be included in the presentations, but if there are questions, they can be addressed in the general discussion.

The Mercury Decision Tree continues to leaf out.  The printed data is supplemented by the power points and the video presentations.
