Subject: market for centrifuges, DAF, and clarifiers boosted by syn fuels

China is investing $6 billion in two big coal liquefaction plants.  The Sasol process will be used.  Substantial purchases of sedimentation and centrifugation equipment will be needed.  The increased use of coal also results in larger markets in coal mining.  Cyclones, clarifiers, and centrifuges are major pieces of process equipment in a coal preparation plant.

Tar Sand activity is booming. This is a big market for centrifuges, but there are needs for DAF.  USFilter has been selected to provide the entire water treatment plant for Suncor Energy's steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operation in the oil sands of Alberta, Canada.  The $4.5-million (U.S. dollars) system from USFilter includes induced-gas flotation, walnut shell filtration, warm lime softening, rake drive, post-softening filtration, and primary and polishing weak acid cations.  Bantrel of Calgary, Alberta, was the engineering firm associated with the project.

The municipal wastewater market is also growing impressively.  Centrifuges continue to gain in popularity over belt filter presses for larger plants in Asia as well as the U.S. and Europe.
