According to the U.S. Census Bureau, housing starts rose 5.8% in April from the prior month, to 672,000. This was 40.9% above the April 2009 level. A 10.2% increase in single-family housing and a 5.8% increase in privately owned units were reported.
Permits issued for privately owned housing units fell 11.5% from March, while single-family units fell 10.7%......................................
For the third straight month the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) has gone up. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate nine to twelve month lag time between architecture billings and construction spending. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) reported the April ABI rating was 48.4, up from a reading of 46.1 the previous month.....................................
Air and liquid filtration maker Donaldson Co Inc (DCI.N) posted third-quarter results that raced past Wall Street estimates, helped by cost-reduction initiatives.
For the third quarter ended April 30, the company reported net income of $49.5 million, or 62 cents a share, compared with $26.6 million, or 34 cents a share, a year ago.
Revenue rose 21 percent to $497.6 million…………………..

March 31, 2010. Net sales for the period were $49.97 million, compared to $48 million for the same period in 2009………………………..
Camfil Farr recently report fiscal year 2009 net sales increased to SEK 4,503 M ($573 million), an increase of SEK 142 M, but decreased by 5% in fixed currency.
Operating profit totaled SEK 417 M ($53 m), corresponding to an EBIT margin of 9.3 (9.2).
Sales in Europe remained stable level and increased again in Asia after last year’s negative growth. However, the financial crisis had the largest negative impact on markets in the Americas, where the Comfort Air, APC and Railroad segments all showed double-digit declines in sales……………………………….
Martinez, Calif.-based startup Aspen Air Inside has developed an air filtration technology that seeks to improve the energy efficiency of HVAC systems by 30 percent, while removing 99 percent of respirable small particles.
Aspen Air’s claim of 30-percent energy improvement is based on lab testing of its technology compared to standard, throwaway 1-inch filters. Mike Gunion, president of Aspen Air said the technology has a one- to two-year payback……………………
Vokes-Air Group have been working with Heathrow Airport to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Already contracted to provide a filter supply, fit and disposal service, Vokes-Air Group utilised their Synsafe Revo pocket filter after conducting a full review of the current Air Handling Unit filter arrangements.
Vokes-Air Group installed their Synsafe Revo filters in a number of air handling units at London Heathrow in back-to-back trials against their own and competitor traditional filter arrangements. These installations were monitored by Heathrow and Vokes-Air for air flow, pressure drop, filtration efficiency and power consumption. Whilst there was variance in energy savings on each unit, in all cases the Synsafe Revo outperformed the comparative filters by between 20% and 50%.......................................

The new GORE® Z-panel filter provides E12 (formerly H12) efficiency and adds to Gore’s existing range of membrane based filter panels and cartridges. The waterproof filters provide high efficiency, submicron air filtration and prevent virtually all dirt, salts, and other contaminants from entering the turbine mechanism.
