Use Cleanroom and Ultrapure Water Technology to Solve Hospital Problems
You have heard the advice that it would be safer to have an operation in a
semiconductor plant than in a hospital. There is no doubt that hospitals could
reduce the patient infection rate by using technologies designed for cleanrooms
and ultrapure water systems. Cleanrooms are already used for some operating
theaters and hospital laboratories, but the technology is not applied elsewhere.
Gowning techniques in hospitals are crude compared to cleanrooms. UV
disinfection can be used to kill microorganisms growing on HVAC filters.
Portable UV units can be used to disinfect rooms prior to use by a new patient.
The water used to wash surgical gowns and the wastewater from this washing all
needs to be free of microorganisms. The E-Bola outbreak is a strong incentive
for hospitals to better utilize the cleanroom and ultrapure water technologies.
