Brecon and Others Collaborate To Supply Turnkey Services
PP4C represents a strategic alliance between Brecon and a number of companies that each plays an important part in the development, design and construction of turnkey cleanrooms. On 30 September, PP4C was unveiled at the Brecon stand (7A008) at the WOTS trade fair in Utrecht.
Bakeries are experiencing an increasing demand for gluten-free products. Gluten-free bread products are not always baked using traditional methods – but at Van Gils bakery in Chaam, that has all changed!
Brecon built a small cleanroom to create a gluten-free environment in which to refrigerate and package specialist baked goods. The design was drawn up in consultation with the baker, and construction is now complete. Van Gils bakery can now meet the rising demand for these products from its customers
Brecon International has also developed innovative products to bring surgery, obstetrics and first aid, etc. closer to populations in low and middle-income countries. The CleanAir Facility Module and the Mobile CleanAir Unit are examples of this.
Acquisitions Driving Global Medical Device Market
With global device demand limited, companies are acquiring each other to boost revenues and take advantage of distribution synergies, according to Kalorama Information. The health care market research publisher says the $300-billion plus global market for medical devices will grow only in the 3 to 4 percent range for the next five years, and this has forced companies to be creative. The finding was made in the firm’s recent report, “The Global Market for Medical Devices, 5th Edition.”
“Combining is the rule as government spending is being curtailed in the U.S. and Europe, and the emerging nations can’t replace the revenue fast enough,” said Bruce Carlson, Publisher of Kalorama Information. “The way to growth is to acquire, partner and merge.”
The largest example is the recent Medtronic Covidien purchase U.S.-based Medtronic said it would purchase Ireland-based Covidien for $42.9 billion in July, combining two of the world’s biggest medical device makers and helping Medtronic enjoy tax savings. Savings with a headquarters change. Kalorama estimates the deal will come just short of creating the largest device company based on 2013 revenues in its “Global Market for Medical Devices, 5th Edition” report, released last year.
There were other acquisitions, according to Kalorama’s report. In May of 2014, Zimmer announced the acquisition of Biomet Inc. for $13.35 billion. The acquisition would solidify Zimmer’s position as the second-largest orthopedic company in the world. Stryker Corporation acquired Patient Safety Technologies, Inc., whose proprietary Safety-Sponge® System and SurgiCount 360™ compliance software help prevent Retained Foreign Objects (RFOs) in the operation room, as well as the acquisition of German surgical room equipment booms and surgical lighting system. Stryker also acquired MAKO Surgical Corporation. MAKO pioneered the advancement of robotic-assisted surgery in orthopedics. Among the players active in 2013 and early 2014 were Boston Scientific, CareFusion, ThermoFisher Scientific, and The Carlyle Group.
Strong Growth in Second Quarter 2014 Silicon Wafer Shipments
Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments increased during the 2nd quarter 2014 when compared to 1st quarter area shipments according to the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) in its quarterly analysis of the silicon wafer industry.
Total silicon wafer area shipments were 2,587 million in.2 during the most recent quarter, a 9.5 percent increase from the 2,363 million in.2 shipped during the previous quarter. New quarterly total area shipments are 8.2 percent higher than 2nd quarter 2013 shipments.
“For two consecutive quarters, strong silicon shipment growth has been recorded by the Silicon Manufacturers Group,” said Hiroshi Sumiya, Chairman of SEMI SMG and General Manager of the Corporate Planning Department of Shin-Etsu Handotai Co., Ltd. “Silicon wafer shipments reached an all-time high in the 2nd quarter, surpassing the previous peak of 2,489 million in.2 shipped in the 3rd quarter of 2010.”
