GE Unveils New Ultrafiltration Membrane for Oil and Gas Sector
The new horizontal-designed, inside-out ultrafiltration (UF) membrane ZeeWeed
700B offers seawater pretreatment for injection and solids removal in oil and
gas applications.
The blended polyethersulphone (PES) membrane uses SevenBore fibre technology,
produces better water quality and is virtually unaffected by variable raw water
quality.
ZeeWeed provides an improved pretreatment technology, decreased lifecycle costs
and reduced weight, as well as extending the life of a sulfate removal unit.
The new membrane does not need air scouring, and uses multibore fibers and
reduces maintenance and repairs and eliminates the need for blowers.
GE Power engineered systems water and process technologies global leader Kevin
Cassidy said: "The offshore oil and gas industry has strict requirements for
materials of construction, space and weight, and GE's ultrafiltration skids
equipped with the new ZeeWeed 700B UF membrane meet these demanding
specifications.
"On offshore facilities, there is limited opportunity for downtime. Using
SevenBore multibore technology minimizes the need for maintenance and repair,
making GE's ZeeWeed 700B ideal for offshore water treatment."
The advanced filtration technology separates particles, bacteria and viruses
from water or wastewater and is used by nearly 1,000 plants globally.
The technology can handle large volumes of water in a small footprint and is
suitable for treating sources such as seawater, GE said.
In May 2015, GE introduced a seawater sulfate removal nanofiltration membrane
for the upstream oil and gas market.
The membrane removes sulphate from injection water in offshore oil production
and reduces scale and corrosion in the injection well.
Aquaporin moving to full scale RO and FO membrane production
Aquaporin is dedicated to revolutionizing water purification and desalination of
seawater through the use of industrial biotechnological techniques and thinking.
The main goal of Aquaporin is to develop the Aquaporin Inside™ technology.
Aquaporin A/S is ready to start full scale production of RO and FO membranes in
Q3 2016 based on Aquaporin Inside™ technology. Membrane products will be
available on the market in Q4 2016.
At December 31, 2015, the balance sheet of the company shows a total balance of
DKK 179 million compared to DKK 107 million in December 31, 2014.
Total non-current assets amounted to DKK 84 million in December 31, 2015
compared to DKK 37 million in December 31, 2014. The increase is driven by
investments in the new headquarters including large-scale production facility
and development projects.
Shareholders equity amounts to DKK 176 million
in December 31, 2015 compared to DKK 105 million in December 31, 2014. The
capital injection from Danica Pension is the contributor to the increase in
equity. Cash and cash equivalent increased by DKK 16 million in 2015 and is DKK
81 million in December 31, 2015.
In the beginning of 2016, Aquaporin A/S invested in Golgi ApS, a start-up
company that is to upscale and manufacture aquaporin proteins in kilo gram scale
for Aquaporin A/S. Golgi ApS will
be located in Aquaporin’s new headquarters and will be fully integrated into
Aquaporin’s organization and day-to-day operations.
Golgi is co-founded in collaboration with professor Per Amstrup and
partially financed by Aquaporin A/S.
Furthermore, Golgi receives co-funding from the Danish Innovation
Foundation for development activities since it is an integrated part of the
IBISS program.
The overall focus area for Golgi ApS is to
secure supply of aquaporin proteins for large scale membrane production in
Aquaporin A/S. This will contribute significantly in further strengthening the
supply chain and support our growth.
The transition from production of milli-grams to
kilo grams of aquaporin protein requires that Golgi ApS installs a dedicated
aquaporin production facility including bioreactors and several downstream
processing units. The plan is to setup a highly productive facility with the
flexibility to produce new aquaporin molecules on a regular basis. That way,
Golgi ApS optimally supports Aquaporin business and R&D that continuously strive
to develop our product portfolios to new industries.
UPW Pharma 2016 Has a New Look This Year
The Ultrapure Water (UPW) Pharmaceutical Conference has a good blend of
commercial and technical coverage of UPW. This year there will be special
workshops on distillation. The conference this year will be in Austin,
Texas on June 7 and 8. It features extended presentations by industry experts
combined with interactive panel and roundtable discussions. The new format
allows attendees extra time to analyze each topic in detail, while providing
ample time for networking. McIlvaine has collaborated with
Ultrapure Water Magazine and Mike
Henley for several decades. Bob McIlvaine has been a speaker at previous UPW
conferences where he addressed the pharmaceutical market opportunities by region
