Asian Chip Manufacturers Will Buy Most of the Environmental and Flow Control Products

By 2015 semiconductor manufacturing will be concentrated in Asia. At that time 74 percent of the production and 70 percent of the revenues will be generated in Asia. The McIlvaine Company (www.mcilvainecompany.com) forecasts that in 2015, 78 percent of the world’s semiconductor equipment purchases will be for Asian chip fabrication facilities. By 2015, the production in Asia will be greater than the entire world production last year.

Based on these forecasted trends, the McIlvaine Company has made nearly 20,000 forecasts for the revenues of environmental and flow control equipment, repair parts, and consumables.

2015 equipment revenues for environmental and flow control in the semiconductor industry ($ millions unless noted otherwise).

Subject Asia World % Asia
Semiconductor equipment 32,000 4l,000 78
RO/UF/MF equipment* 423 542 78
UPW systems** 702 900 78
Cleanrooms 858 1,100 78
Mini environments and devices 238 280 85
HVAC 502 644 78
Scrubbers 285 407 70
Pumps 197 252 78
Valves 484 620 78

*reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration and microfiltration equipment not including external piping and instrumentation

** ultrapure water systems including filtration, degasification and all related piping and installation.

The Asian wafer fabrication facilities use a higher percentage of mini environments than the rest of the world. Also in some Asian countries the slightly more lenient air regulations reduce the need for scrubbers. Therefore the Asian market percentage differs from the semiconductor equipment percentage.

2015 After market and consumable revenues for environmental and flow control in semiconductor manufacturing ($ millions unless noted otherwise).

Subject Asia World Asia %
Semiconductor Revenue 236,600 338,000 70
Wafer starts (millions/month) 17 23 74
Pumps 81 109 74
Valves 196 265 74
Cartridges 662 895 74
Membranes 74 100 74
Treatment chemicals 353 477 74
Air filters 222 300 74
Air monitoring 52 70 74
UPW * 59 80 74
Cleanroom clothing 160 200 80
Wipes 298 373 80
Gloves 484 605 80

*ultrapure water system parts such as instrumentation, piping but not valves, pumps, and filters

Asian fabrication facilities utilize more cleanroom workers than do facilities in the U.S. and Europe. This will result in a higher percentage of the market for gloves, wipes, and clothing.
