By 2006 China will be the largest purchaser of municipal wastewater systems for new plants but the market for repair parts and replacement pumps will only be half the size of the U.S. market. In Municipal Wastewater Pumps: 80 country Forecasts, the McIlvaine Company provides pump revenues and projected flow rates in millions of gallons per day for 80 countries and sub regions. Additional secondary treatment capacity of 3100 mgd will be added in 2006 in China bringing the total to 20,000 mgd of secondary capacity. However this is still small compared to the 39,000 mgd of secondary treatment capacity which will be in place at the beginning of 2007 in the U.S.
