Fabric Filter Market Forecast Update Tomorrow

In a webinar Friday, October 2 at 10:00 a.m. we will be reviewing our fabric filter forecast and point out some major changes which will be made in our next quarterly update.  The sales of fabric filter systems and bags for power plants will grow at a much greater rate than we had previously predicted.  When you consider that Eskom alone will spend over $1 billion on systems next year and close to $60 million for bags, their purchases will reach $100 million in the peak year - 2017.  The analysis will show that the world’s largest cement, power and steel companies will buy 50 percent of the fabric filter systems and bags over the next 10 years.  This means that with the Utility E-Alert and Fabric Filter Market report it is possible to precisely target the major prospects. The webinar tomorrow will show information on 100 companies.  It is free of charge to fabric filter market subscribers and $700 for non-subscribers who can later deduct this from the purchase.

$2.7 Billion Market for Catalyst for Stationary NOx and CO Control

This year power plants, gas turbine, stationary engine and incinerator operators will spend $2.7 billion for NOx and CO catalyst.  This is the latest forecast in the McIlvaine publication NOx Control World Market.   www.mcilvainecompany.com.

The market for catalyst for coal-fired boilers will fall over the next two years and then regain and surpass the present level.  The reason is that China is just completing a retrofit program to install SCR on 400,000 MW of existing coal-fired capacity.  Catalyst is only replaced every five years.  The surge in orders raised the market to an unsustainable level.

SCR and oxidation catalyst sales for gas turbines will grow substantially.  The biggest market will be the U.S.  Europe is considering regulations which would require SCR on gas turbines.  However, the rule is only under discussion and firm emission limits are not yet set.

Selective non-catalytic and hybrid systems are finding markets in cement, chemical and the oil and gas industry.   Catalyst cleaning is a $500 million market and includes physical cleaning, chemical cleaning and renovation with new precious metals.

The NOx control system market is in excess of $18 billion/yr.  It is dominated by boiler companies such as B&W, Doosan and Mitsubishi.   Longking and other Chinese suppliers are also major suppliers.  The Chinese suppliers have benefited from the very large retrofit market.  They are now adjusting to the smaller market associated with the new generation plants.

Lots of new coal-fired boilers are under planning and construction in India, Indonesia and Vietnam but most will not utilize highly efficient NOx control.  Low NOx burners will suffice to reach the required limits.

Forecasts for ammonia injection systems, urea, aqueous ammonia, anhydrous ammonia, diverters, high temperature catalysts and continuous emissions monitors are also included in the NOx Control World Market  http://home.mcilvainecompany.com/index.php/markets/2-uncategorised/104-n035.

Steady Progress being Made on the Storage Front

Better storage technologies will allow for greater adoption of renewable energy. Recent announcements indicate progress in being made in that field.

S&C Electric Company announced it was awarded a new project by Half Moon Ventures (HMV) to supply and build a 7-MW energy storage facility. The project will be located in Minster, Ohio and is being built in conjunction with the local municipal utility, the Village of Minster. Once complete, the project will be one of the largest energy storage systems in Ohio.

HMV will use S&C’s 7-MW PureWave® SMS Storage Management System, providing fully integrated storage management and power conversion for 3 MWh of lithium ion-batteries.

Reflecting a long-standing commitment to the research and development (R&D) of new technologies to better serve customers, Southern Company hosted industry leaders and local dignitaries at a ribbon-cutting ceremony and facility tour at the largest battery storage research project in its operating system.

Located in Cedartown, Georgia, the new research project will test and evaluate a 1-megawatt (MW)/2-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery storage system using lithium-ion battery technology – similar to the battery chemistry in electric vehicles and many of today's consumer electronics.

The Cedartown research demonstration was created by Southern Company in collaboration with the Electric Power Research Institute, in order to develop a large, utility-scale lithium-ion battery system and evaluate how battery storage systems can create value for customers.

The Cedartown battery demonstration is located on the site of a 1-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility owned and operated by WGL Energy. The solar PV facility is part of Southern Company subsidiary Georgia Power's Advanced Solar Initiative (ASI). Georgia Power's innovative ASI programs have allowed the company to add hundreds of megawatts of cost-effective solar generation in Georgia without putting upward pressure on customer rates. Batteries are provided by LG Chem, one of the world's largest lithium-ion battery manufacturers.
