Environmental Costs
Ovens
Filter manufacturing results in both air and solid waste pollution.. Some of the solid waste problems are addressed in “waste reduction” . The cost of air pollution control can be substantial.
Jensen supplies curing ovens for filter paper. It also supplies oxidizers for pollution control . A 10,000 cfm oxidizer for a filter paper curing oven is pictured along with the oven. At $ 20/cfm the oxidizer represents a capital investment of over $ 200,000 plus ongoing gas and other operating costs.

Wix
Wix Filter air permit review from North Carolina division of air quality indicates that the Allen plant in Gastonia N.C. has the following air filter manufacturing lines
Line 8 with paper and plastisol cure oven, with a phenol limit of 0.6 lbs/hr
Line 18 with a paper cure oven and phenol limit of 0.03 lbs/hr
Line 32 paper preheat oven has a phenol limit of 0.95 lbs/hr and the paper cure oven has a limit of 0.95 lbs/hr of phenol as well
Opacity violations have resulted in required addition of thermal oxidizers

Camfil Farr
Camfil Farr along with many filter manufacturers must fill out a listing each year of toxic releases to the air, water, and ground. Here is their TRI permit for one facility
Champion
champion laboratories title 5 permit with list of air filter lines and ovens etc
Fleetgard
Sources emitting more than 100 tons per year of criteria pollutants such as CO or Nox have to secure a title 5 operating permit. The emissions from each source within the plant are identified and limits set. Here is the Title V permit for the Fleetgard Iowa Plant
