Description:
Will incorporate SCR, low NOx burners, wet limestone FGD and dry
and wet ESP and allow the use of Western Kentucky high-sulfur coal. SO2 removal
will be 98 percent with an emission of 0.167 lb/MMBtu. NOx emissions will be
0.08 lb/MMBtu. (Both of these limits are below those proposed in Clear
Skies--SO2 0.25, NOx 0.14). Some concerns about impact on Mammouth Cave. Has
received pre-approval for the air quality permit. 2/02 Environmentalists still
question impact on Mammouth Cave. Has signed letter of intent with EPC and still
negotiating.10/02 Peabody continues to seek permits despite lawsuits filed to
stop construction. 7/03 Has completed its application. The siting board approved
construction. 12/03 Has air permit. Delayed unitl mid-2005 due to permitting
issues. Appeal of permit does not preclude the company from beginning
construction. 3/05 Another lawsuit filed in regard to Mammoth Cave National
Park. 8/05 Permit remanded back to KY DAQ.
