2010 InterWEBview with John Conover on compressors to reduce energy consumption

InterWEBview™ Summary:  The screw compressors now installed in many wastewater plants in Europe and some plants here in the U.S. are demonstrating that at no more capital cost/cfm energy consumption can be reduced by 30% or more and therefore greatly reducing life cycle costs of aeration.

Interview Summary:

A new screw type blower saves 30-43 percent of the energy required for the traditional positive displacement lobe blower. It can also be equipped with a variable speed drive for further energy savings. On a net present value basis the savings are substantial. The fully enclosed unit reduces the sound to less than 70 DBA.

Product Information:

The ZB single-stage centrifugal blowers, with directly coupled high-speed, compact motor unit and centrifugal compressor wheel, combine world-leading energy efficiency with an extremely low operating noise level of 67 dB(A).

To meet the needs of the low pressure market, Atlas Copco has slowly developed blowers to both meet the needs of the many low pressure markets while maintaining the high efficiency and quality standards which customers have come to expect from Atlas Copco.
