The success of
the Lurgi CFB absorber is described. Six big 300
MW units are now being built for various U.S. power plants. The
efficiency is not limited by the acid dew point. Efficiencies of
SO3, HF, HCl, and SO2 removal are all very
high. Mercury removal is also high, but the unit combined with
ACI provides some unique advantages.

PennWell to start this conference and has grown it to
its present impressive size. Dave describes the unique aspects
of the conference and the ways the 150-person organizing
committee coordinates the program. McIlvaine and Dave reflected
on the changes in the industry since the Coal Technology shows
in the 1970s. Several were in Germany. Now most of the
exhibitors from that era are no longer in business under their
