In his work as an independent water management consultant, technical writer, seminar leader, and public speaker, he helps companies manage their water resources.  He works with industrial, government, utility and commercial clients on projects that conserve water, reduce cost and save energy.  This includes writing chemical treatment specifications for boiler water, cooling water and waste water treatment programs.

Bill has a B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois cum laude (1972) and over 36 years of experience in the water management field.  This includes employment as Technical Director, Director of Dearbon Educational Services, and Senior Product Manager for Dearborn Chemical.  He also served as the Midwest Regional Engineer for Arrowhead Industrial Water, a high purity mobile services, ion exchange and reverse osmosis equipment company.

Drawing from this combined experience, Bill started Harfst and Associates in March 1991.
