Universal Continuing Decision Process For: Biomass Cost and Availability *

In 2002, EIA estimated that while 590 million wet tons of biomass would be available in the US on an annual basis, only about 20 million wet tons (enough to supply about 3-GW of capacity) was currently available at a cost-effective price of around $1.25 per MMBtu. The average price of coal to electric utilities in 2001 was $1.23 per MMBtu. See Biomass for Electricity Generation, EIA, 2002.
