Universal Continuing Decision Process For: ZeroGen *

Australia scrapped plans for the $4.3 billion coal-fired power station with carbon capture and storage in Queensland in December 2010. A joint government and industry-led research project, ZeroGen was to have combined integrated coal gasification open cycle technology with CCS and was touted as likely to be the world's first such facility. The coal-fired plant would initially have captured up to 65% of its emissions, with the potential to capture and store up to 90%, or 2 million tons of CO2 per year. Roughly $190 million has been invested on developing the clean coal power station to date and that research will continue over the next three to four years. Experts believe that a price on carbon will be necessary before the project will move forward again.
