Universal Continuing Decision Process For: Butterfly Valves *
This system is at the world's largest single train olefins plant in Port Arthur, Texas. This olefins plant uses Foxboro IA Series Distributed control system (DCS) for process control and a Triconex triple modular redundant (TMR) emergency shut down system (ESD). Steam curtain is used at an ethylene plant to separate process heaters from the rest of the unit in case of emergency at the process heaters area. Picture above depicts the process flow set up. Process description In an emergency situation the ESD system signals the Steam Curtain Valves to open and let medium pressure steam into Steam Curtain header. The header has nozzles that spray the steam upwards creating steam curtain between the cracker and the rest of the unit thus isolating it from the cracker. Application requirements for these valves are: 1. No visible leakage 2. Long lasting tightness 3. High temperature construction 4. Reliability 5. Media is 24 bar / 350 psi medium pressure steam at 220 °C / 430 °F. 6. Line size is 300 mm (12”), class 300. 7. Valve size: 10” class 300 8. Valve material carbon steel/stainless steel |
