BIO: Dennis McDonald earned a B.S.C.E in 1972 from Ohio Northern University and an M.S.C.E. in 1976 from the University of Akron. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Ohio. He has been employed at Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group since 1972 and was named Technical Fellow in 2006. He is currently responsible for B&W’s oxy-coal combustion R&D efforts. From 1995 to 2006 he managed the Functional Technology Department, responsible for core performance, thermohydraulic, CFD modeling and field performance testing technologies. From 1985 to 1995 he managed B&W PGG’s technical scope for the pressurized fluidized bed unit supplied to American Electric Power’s DOE co-sponsored Tidd PFBC project. Before that he served in various capacities from Stress Analysis Engineer to Senior Design Engineer. He has been a member of ASME since 1986 and currently holds 9 patents, has authored or co-authored over 40 technical papers, and authored chapters in both the 40th and 41st editions of “Steam its Generation and Use”.
