Co-firing biomass and coal can provide multiple environmental benefits including reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) and other emissions, such as sulfur dioxide and particulate matter. A full evaluation of the net CO2 reduction requires an evaluation of emissions over the full life cycle of the fuel production, processing, transport and use. A brief discussion of results from two small boilers co-firing biomass and coal are presented, including emission measurements, boiler efficiency, and fuel characteristics for the two units.
