"Use of Steam Flow Method to Calculate CO2 Emissions from the Combustion of Heterogeneous Fuels:" Accurately determining biogenic and anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions from power generating facilities which combust heterogeneous fuels such as refuse derived fuel (RDF) or municipal solid waste (MSW) has been historically difficult because of both the heterogeneous nature of the fuels, and the difficulty of installing and maintaining CEMS around abatement equipment. An alternative method for determining CO2 emissions via monitoring steam flow to calculate heat input may be used which is a convenient and simple alternative to the CEMS method. Utilization of the steam flow method, in conjunction with using ASTM Method D6866-06a for determination of the biogenic fraction of CO2 from the combustion of heterogeneous fuels is presented with a specific example from a MSW facility in California.
