Title: EPA Final Cleanup Plan for Gowanus Canal Superfund Site

EPA’s final cleanup plan for the Gowanus Canal Superfund Site in New York City provides for dredging of accumulated sediments, capping, off-site thermal treatment of dredged NAPL-contaminated sediments; in-situ stabilization of native sediments contaminated with high levels of NAPL, excavation and restoration of a portion of the site, stabilization of sediments not contaminated by NAPL and their re-use off-site. Included are estimated capital costs; treatment and disposal costs; annual operation, maintenance and monitoring costs and present-worth cost. Contaminants of concern are PAHs, PCBs and heavy metals: mercury, lead and copper.
